Hong Kong: Mee Cheung Photographers, not dated, circa 1925
Oblong format album, 25.5cm x 16cm. Bound in paper covered hard boards over fabric covered spine, string bound. Title label pasted to inside front cover which also notes the Mee Cheung addresses as Studio: Ice House Street, and Branch: 7, Beaconsfield House, Hong Kong. Within the album are 46 silver gelatin print photographs pasted onto brown card, of which eighteen are 9.5cm x 14cm, two are 7cm x 10cm and twenty are 6cm x 8.5cm. The photograph are pasted recto and verso to the stiff card leaves and interlaced are thin paper sheets with captions and commentary on each photograph. Includes a series of harbour views, some excellent images of the streets in Central including Pedder Street Des Voeux Road and Wyndham Street, views of and from the Repulse Bay Hotel, Mount Kellett on the Peak and smaller photos including Happy Valley and the Supreme Court. The firm of Mee Cheung were, along with Ah Fong, one of the most active Chinese photographic studios in Hong Kong in the early years of the 20th century. An attractive commercial album with 46 well composed and interesting silver gelatin prints. Very Good condition. [B7381]
